What chimney repairs do you do?

Pure Airflow Cleaning repairs and maintains residential chimneys on Long Island, New York and in Fairfield County, Connecticut. The work includes brickwork and crack repair such as tuckpointing, waterproofing and leak prevention, repair or replacement of the chimney cap, crown, and flashing, and partial or complete structural restoration. You get the scope and the price before the repair is scheduled.

A lot of the chimneys we see were built with the house: brick colonials in Garden City and Great Neck, capes along the South Shore, and older masonry in Stamford, Greenwich, and Norwalk. Mortar joints open up. Crowns crack. A missing cap lets water and animals in.

Water is the usual villain. It freezes in the joints, pops the brick faces, and shows up indoors as a stain on the ceiling beside the chimney. Flashing that has lifted at the roof does the same thing. Repairing the outside is what keeps the next nor'easter out of the living room.

What's included

Repairs and maintenance we handle

Not every chimney needs all of this. An inspection tells us which pieces are actually failing, and the estimate lists only that work.

Tuckpointing and cracks

Failed mortar is ground out and replaced, and cracked brickwork is repaired so the chimney stays weather-tight and structurally sound.

Waterproofing and leaks

Where water is getting in, we address the source: open joints, a cracked crown, failed flashing, or masonry that needs a breathable water repellent after the repairs.

Cap, crown, and flashing

We repair or replace the chimney cap, the concrete crown, and the flashing that ties the chimney to the roof. When the stack itself is failing, we restore it in part or in full.

When a repair is the right call

Noticing any of these in a Long Island or Fairfield County home? Send a request and we'll help you sort it out.

What homeowners usually notice

  • White staining or spalling on the bricks
  • Mortar that crumbles when you touch it
  • A cracked, sloping, or missing crown
  • A cap that is rusted, loose, or gone
  • Flashing that has pulled away from the brick

Indoors and after storms

  • Brown stains on the ceiling near the chimney
  • A damp smell at the fireplace after rain
  • Bits of masonry in the firebox
  • Daylight visible through joints you can see from the yard
  • Damage after a coastal storm or a hard freeze

Why it matters

Small leaks become loose bricks.

An open mortar joint lets water into the wall of the chimney. A Northeast winter freezes that water and widens the joint. Left alone, the damage moves from a maintenance job to a stack that has to be rebuilt.

We'd rather price a tuckpoint, a crown, or a new cap while the structure is still sound. If the chimney does need partial or complete restoration, that scope is written down, with a price, before anyone starts taking brick apart.

What exactly will you do?

We tell you before we start. Air duct cleaning is a full-system cleaning of the supply ducts, return ducts, trunk lines, vents, and grilles, following NADCA standards, with before-and-after photos. Chimney cleaning removes soot, creosote, blockages, and nests from the flue and firebox. An inspection adds a camera look through the flue and a check for cracks and other safety issues. Repair covers tuckpointing, waterproofing, and the cap, crown, and flashing, up to partial or complete restoration. If something would change the work, you'll hear it before we go further.

How much will it cost?

You'll get a clear price before any work begins. We ask a few questions about the home, then give you an estimate based on its size and the work involved. If we find something on the day that would change the price, we check with you first. No surprises on the bill.

Will it make a real difference?

When dust is sitting in the ducts, cleaning it out helps air move and leaves less of it blowing back into the rooms. When creosote, a nest, or a cracked crown is the problem, sweeping, inspecting, or repairing the chimney is what makes the fireplace safer to use. If we find a different cause, we'll say so.

FAQ

Chimney repair questions

Short answers to the questions we hear most from homeowners in Nassau, Suffolk, and Fairfield County.

See all frequently asked questions

What is tuckpointing?

Tuckpointing is the repair of mortar joints. Deteriorated mortar is removed and new mortar is packed in so water stays out and the bricks stay locked together. It is one of the most common chimney repairs on older Long Island and Fairfield County houses.

Can you stop a chimney leak?

Often, yes, once the source is clear. Leaks usually trace to the crown, the flashing, open joints, or a missing cap. We find the path the water is taking and repair that, instead of coating over a crack that is still open.

Do you replace chimney caps and crowns?

Yes. We repair or replace chimney caps, crowns, and flashing. A cap keeps out rain and animals. A sound crown sheds water off the top of the masonry. Flashing seals the joint between chimney and roof.

What does structural restoration mean?

When bricks are loose, the stack is leaning, or the damage goes beyond the joints, we rebuild the failed portion or the whole chimney. That work is quoted as its own project, with the scope spelled out before you approve it.

Should I get an inspection before a repair?

Yes, if you don't already know what's failing. A camera inspection and an outside look keep the repair matched to the problem. If the issue is obvious, such as a missing cap, we can price that directly.

How much does chimney repair cost on Long Island?

A cap is not a rebuild, so we don't use one number for both. You'll get a price for the specific repair after we know the chimney. Nothing is added on the day without your approval.
