What does a chimney sweep do?
A chimney sweep removes soot, creosote, and debris such as leaves or nests from the inside of a chimney, so smoke can rise and leave the house the way it should. Pure Airflow Cleaning sweeps chimneys for homes across Palm Beach County, Florida. The best time to book is before the first fire of the cooler months.
In South Florida, most fireplaces sit unused for much of the year. That long break is when leaves, nests, and other debris tend to find their way into the chimney.
Then, when the weather cools and the first fire is lit, whatever is in the chimney is in the way of the smoke. Soot and creosote left over from last season are still there too.
What's included
What a chimney sweep covers
Chimneys vary from home to home. We'll go over what's included for yours when we talk through the estimate.
The flue
The passage inside the chimney that carries smoke up and out. This is where soot and creosote build up.
The firebox
The part of the fireplace where the fire burns, and where soot and fallen debris collect.
Debris from outside
Leaves, nests, and other debris that get into the chimney while the fireplace isn't being used.

Why it matters
Creosote is flammable.
Creosote forms when wood smoke cools and condenses on the inside of the chimney. It builds up over time, and because it burns, too much of it can lead to a chimney fire.
The National Fire Protection Association's standard for chimneys (NFPA 211) calls for chimneys to be inspected once a year and cleaned when needed. How fast buildup forms depends on how often you use the fireplace and what you burn.

FAQ
Chimney Sweep questions
Short answers to the questions we hear most. Still have a question? Ask us when we get in touch.
How often should a chimney be swept?
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends a chimney inspection once a year, with sweeping whenever there's buildup. If you use your fireplace often, or it's been a while since the last sweep, book one before your next fire.
What is creosote?
Creosote is a dark, sticky or flaky residue that forms when wood smoke cools and condenses inside the chimney. It's highly flammable, and heavy buildup is a common cause of chimney fires, which is why regular sweeping matters.
I rarely use my fireplace. Does it still need sweeping?
Yes. Even if you only light a few fires a year, it's worth having it swept before you use it after a long break. In Florida, a fireplace can sit for most of the year, and leaves, nests, and other debris can get into the chimney in the meantime.
When is the best time to have a chimney swept in Florida?
Before the first fire of the cooler months. Booking in late summer or early fall means the chimney is ready when the weather turns.
How much does a chimney sweep cost?
It depends on the chimney and how much buildup there is, so every job gets its own estimate. You'll know the price before we start. Send a request and we'll get you a quote.
